Proof of Keys Day Returns on Bitcoin’s 11th Birthday
3.1.2020
Last year’s inaugural Proof of Keys day didn’t see massive amounts of bitcoin withdrawn judging by onchain data – but it did serve to educate a community. Trace Mayer’s call to arms also put exchanges on notice, with some disabling withdrawals, citing unscheduled...
Is “is” Useful?
3.1.2020
God I'm funny.
Anytime we have fairly repetitive selectors that have a common parent, it's probably a place we can use the :is() pseudo-selector.
Holger Bartel demonstrates like this:
section section h1, section article h1, section aside h1, section nav h1,
article section h1, article article...
Gotta Select’em All
3.1.2020
I suspect it is not highly known that CSS can control how text is selected. You can do user-select: none; to prevent some text from being selected. That's probably not terribly good UX in general, but perhaps you use some period (.) characters as decoration or something, I could see preventing...
Microbrowsers are Everywhere
3.1.2020
The word "microbrowser" clearly got my attention. Never heard that before. Colin Bendell defines them as the little parts of other software that do HTTP requests to a URL to generate a preview. Like the little URL preview in iOS messages, WhatsApp, or Slack.
I'm a tiny bit skeptical of the name...

3.1.2020

Why Double Spends on BCH Are Not the Same as Replace-By-Fee Fraud
3.1.2020
When it comes to creating a peer-to-peer electronic cash system, accepting zero confirmation transactions becomes critically important. When a model’s main aim is to “just hodl” or push an isolated store of value narrative, important concerns like double spending can take a back...
BTC’s Hashrate Touches 120 Exahash, But the Price Has Not Followed
3.1.2020
On January 1, the BTC network hashrate touched an all-time high at close to 120 exahash per second (EH/s). Despite the crypto market lull and lower BTC prices, the 2020 milestone happened just before the blockchain’s 11th anniversary. BTC’s curious jump in hashrate has the cryptosphere...
Early Cypherpunk Emails Reveal a Blueprint for Bitcoin
3.1.2020
The cypherpunks, a ragtag group of tech tinkerers, cryptographers, and privacy advocates, were obscure in their 1990s heyday. And it would have remained that way in perpetuity were it not for a certain Satoshi Nakamoto launching a digital currency in 2009 encapsulating their core beliefs....

Google Restores Metamask App After Community Uproar
2.1.2020
Similar to how it’s restored some crypto Youtube channels after a lot of pushback from the crypto community, Google has now restored Metamask to the Play Store. Either the tech giant is sensitive to claims of hurting innovation and competition or it is simply not ready yet to enforce a ban...
How to Build Your Resume on npm
2.1.2020
Just yesterday, Ali Churcher shared a neat way to make a resume using a CSS Grid layout. Let’s build off that a bit by creating a template that we can spin up whenever we want using the command line. The cool thing about that is that you’ll be able to run it with just one command.
I know...
Adding Dynamic And Async Functionality To JAMstack Sites
2.1.2020
Jason Lengstorf:
Here’s an incomplete list of things that I’ve repeatedly heard people claim the JAMstack can’t handle that it definitely can:
Load data asynchronously
Handle processing files, such as manipulating images
Read from and write to a database
Handle user authentication and protect...
