Francis Suarez, the pro-bitcoin mayor of the U.S. city of Miami, became the first Republican to bow out of the party’s presidential primary race after he announced the suspension of his campaign on Aug. 29. According to some reports, Suarez was forced to suspend his campaign after he failed to make it to the first Grand Old Party (GOP) primary debate.

Suarez Pledges Support for the Winning Candidate

Bro-bitcoin Miami Mayor and a GOP presidential candidate, Francis Suarez, became the first to drop out of the primary race after he announced the suspension of his campaign on Aug. 29. However, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Suarez, widely seen as a longshot candidate, said he hopes to stay in touch with candidates who are still in the race.

As previously reported by Bitcoin.com News, Suarez was one of three Republicans in the presidential primary race believed to be crypto-friendly. The other two are the Florida governor Ron Desantis and the presumed winner of the first GOP primary debate, Vivek Ramaswamy. In addition, the Miami Mayor’s campaign, just like Ramaswamy’s, was accepting crypto donations when the suspension announcement was made.

Meanwhile, in his Aug. 29 post on X, Suarez expressed his willingness to help the Republican party find a suitable candidate to face President Joe Biden in 2024.

“I look forward to keeping in touch with the other Republican presidential candidates and doing what I can to make sure our party puts forward a strong nominee who can inspire and unify the country, renew Americans’ trust in our institutions and in each other, and win,” Suarez wrote on X.

While the Miami Mayor’s statement did not divulge the reasons for the suspension, one report has attributed the withdrawal to the campaign’s failure to make it to the first GOP primary debate. In addition, Suarez himself had previously promised to drop out of the race if he failed to make it to the debate.
