Hey,

how can we build better web experiences? There are likely more things about it than I could list in this short introduction paragraph but here are a few examples from this week’s reading list. First, we can build simpler interfaces, not add new elements or new features and to ensure this, we could try to iterate on our UI regularly and perform cleanups every month. When you build a new feature it’s usually not perfect so key is to improve it later on and revisit it from time to time. Next, we can optimise for a user’s device battery or network connection and try to deliver smaller and energy-saving applications. And finally, wouldn’t it be great to reward ourselves as well with some simplification by using native JavaScript modules? That way we can be an elegant simplifier. Happy weekend!

UI/UX

  • In our modern world, it’s easy to junk things up. Simple is hard. We’re quick to add more questions to research surveys, more buttons to a digital interface, more burdens to people.

Web Performance

  • We know it ourselves but so many users these days use the Internet with a battery driven device. The WebKit team shares how web content can affect power usage and how to improve performance of your web application and save battery.
